A modular home (or modular home or residence) is a building used for housing people. It usually has walls and a roof to protect its interior from rain, wind, heat and cold. In addition to people, one often finds animals in prefab homes, either as pets or as unwanted visitors.
Families, as well as other social groups, usually live permanently in shipping container home. Many people leave their home during the day for work and entertainment and return to it for sleep, rest or other activities.
Every modular home has at least one entrance, usually a door or gate, although some primitive shipping container home had access from the roof or by a ladder. Many shipping container home have a back door which leads to the so-called back yard. As a rule, a modular home also has several windows that let in natural light and fresh air and provide a view outside.
Shape
Archaeologists show a particular interest in the shape of the shipping container home: they consider the transition from the circular hut to the rectangular modular home as an important advance in the better use of space, and link it to the development of the concept of personal space.
Function/Usefulness
Some shipping container home go beyond the basic function of providing "a roof over our heads" or the family home and may be used to display wealth or fashion or consumerism. The residence of a feudal lord or lord may require defensive fortifications and turn the residence into a fortress or castle. A monarch's residence may also modular home courtiers and officials, in addition to the royal family. In this case the residence turns into a palace. When someone owns a second home, usually in a non-urban area, it is referred to as a country home.
Contrary to the modern tendency to separate some functions into different buildings, during most of human history the modular home served many purposes: in addition to living space, it could also be a workshop, shop or office. In such cases the living space was usually above the ground floor. It took the industrial revolution to separate manufacturing and services from the home. To this day there are shopkeepers who live above their shop.
By exchanging vacation prefab homes, one can secure the advantages of home ownership to experience a foreign place.
Within the home
The places
Many shipping container home have several rooms with specialized functions, such as a dining area, a sleeping area, and an area for washing and cleaning. In traditional farming societies, animals such as chickens or cows often share a part of the modular home with people. Most modern shipping container home have at least one bathroom, kitchen, living room and bedroom.

Arrangement
Ideally, architects design shipping container home in a way that serves the needs of the people who will live in them. This design, known as interior design, has been a very popular topic in universities in recent years. Feng shui, originally a Chinese method of building prefab homes according to factors such as sunlight and microclimatic conditions, has recently expanded into interior design with the goal of bringing harmony to the people living inside the home.
The area of a modular home in Europe is measured in square meters and includes all the area surrounded by the outer walls of the modular home. In the United States the area is measured in square feet and does not include the garage and outdoor areas.
